Horizon Event

What’s over there, on the distant shore,

shrouded in a mist of future uncertainty,

dark, mysterious, waiting to be

discovered, should we choose to explore?

Some say it’s best to stay where you are,

safely stored in your present-day harbor,

to deny the persistently possible horror,

turning away all assistance from afar.

But the future becomes present anyway,

no matter the wall we build at the border;

better to meet it head-on now, in order

to deal with whatever it brings some day.
